This Invenio corpus repository is part of a group of data resources tracing European persons who were resident or serving in East Asia during the early 20th century and who were displaced as a result of national border changes and conflicts. It is one component outcome of Divisive Power of Citizenship—an SNF-funded project (Grant 100011_184860/1)—which comprises information about 4,784 persons affected by the allied repatriation effort. These persons were transported on or before August 1946 by the U.S. military from China to French Indochina.

The repository records available here relate to instances of persons appearing in archival sources, which have been obtained using WADM annotation. This preserves connections between original context of the instance in the source document and a computer-readable text representation of the printed material. The annotation collection has been further structured using a JSON Schema to enable searching via conventional filters in this repository, and it has also been processed as a dataset available, together with the Schema via https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.5666547. This dataset is independently-consumable for research purposes and, since it is linked to the IIIF service supported here, can be used to browse the digital version of the source document.
